Chip Timing

Grand Prix of Running uses Chip Timing for all of its events. For each race, you will be issued a chip to wear to receive your time. Chips are disposable and do not have to be returned after the race.

GUN TIME is used, whereby every runner has the same start time. When you cross the finish line, you run across a timing mat, which automatically records your time into the computer. There are no Start Mats when using GUN TIME.

Easy chip attachment:
The proper way to attach your chip is to run your shoe lace through the slits of the chip as shown:

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is chip timing?
Chip timing is computer timing. You are given a timing chip to wear, and once you cross the timing mats at the finish line, your time is automatically recorded into the computer. Generally, chip timing is much quicker and more efficient than manual timing.

Gun Time (Official Time) is the time from the sound of the Starter's signal to the time when you cross the finish line. There are no Start Mats when using Gun Time. Gun Time is the official time recognized by USATF.

How do I use the chip?
Chips are issued before each race and must be worn tied securely into your shoelaces. THE CHIP WILL NOT REGISTER ON THE TIMING MATS IF IT IS WORN ANYWHERE ABOVE THE KNEE!!!

When will I receive the chip?
The chips are given to you when you register. Please remember to bring the Chip & the Bib to the race!!!

Do I have to wear my Bib No. if I wear the chip?
Yes, you still have to wear the Bib No. on your Front side. Bib numbers are recorded as you come across the finish line as part of a manual backup system that the timing company uses.

What do I do with the chip after the race?
Once you have crossed the finish line, you may remove the chip and place it in the bins or you may keep it as a souvenir.

If I forget to turn in my chip, how can I return the chip?
Chips do not need to be returned! They may be kept as a souvenir.
